The regulatory regime for infection control in the veterinary profession has been through a great deal of change and veterinary practices are being bombarded with information from all directions. So it’s not surprising that there is still a considerable amount of confusion in many practices as to just what their obligations are.

The RCVS Practice Standards Scheme comprises 3 parts:

  • Core Standards – relevant to all veterinary practices and reflecting mainly legal requirements.
  • General Practice (Small Animal, Equine, Farm animal, Small Animal Emergency Clinic) – must meet all Core Standards as well as General Practice Standards
  • Veterinary Hospital – must meet all Core Standards, General Practice Standards and specific Hospital Standards

Section 5.12 is particularly relevant
